The IDS Behavioural intervention and workplace violence training program continues to evolve in response to feedback from course participants as well as the many organisations which we continually work with. As violence changes so should the training provided to better suit the situations that we find ourselves in.

The content of our programmes are updated to reflect the latest research findings and to also keep in line with current policies and procedures related to the education industry.

All our training focuses on increasing safety for all while placing a large emphasis on de-escalation techniques and strategies. If physical intervention is required we promote gradual and graded responses to ensure the minimum level of physical contact is used in all situations.

This programme has been specifically designed and collaborated on by IDS and State Teachers Union of WA (STUWA) in order to better protect staff working in challenging environments.

Throughout the various departments of government such as, military, police, council rangers, security providers and operational support staff, there has always been an acknowledgement for training in the varying aspects of what is commonly known as ‘self defence’.

In recent years, Australia we have all seen a dramatic increase in violent encounters from verbal assault to physical assault both armed and unarmed. These variants have seen a dramatic rise in the threat level placed upon employees working in these high risk environments.

With any increase in duty activity, especially those that cause threat to employees, a more thorough recognition towards effective training must be considered. The traditional ‘self defence’ course which usually comprised of a large number of non-transitional, fine motor skill applications that are taught to participants at the commencement of their career, doesn’t represent the identified risks present in today’s operational environment.

Attacks by extremist groups have been targeting the western ways of life and have had a devastating impact. Undoubtedly soldiers will find themselves challenged with an ever-changing and complex area of operation.

As a training provider IDS is focused on providing functional and effective combative systems for the de-escalation and transition to non-lethal or lethal use of force. IDS are determined to ensure soldiers are skilled and confident in identifying and de-escalating potentially unpredictable situations before harm can occur to themselves or to their fellow team members.
